Random stuff

Every Sunday night during dorm meeting, I plan an activity to reinforce a biblical concept. This week they were broken up into families of four and had to decide what they would do with an unexpected windfall of $100,000. Two families were given instructions to read Luke 12:13-21 first before making any decisions and the other family was not. Interesting all the different ideas each group came up with! We also take time to write notes of encouragement to classmates, dorm brothers and sisters and teachers. A few weeks ago we wrote notes of encouragement to two brothers, J & D, who had lived with us last year. J had a particularly difficult time and the family moved back to the US. This week, we received this from J:

To Uncle Tim and Aunt Shauna,
I hope this has been a great year for you as dorm parents. You two were fantastic dorm parents to me and I am so glad that I was able to get to know you both. I may have struggled with myself at my time at Dalat, but you never ceased to give your love and care, and for that you will always have my thanks.
To Annie and Kaleb, You two are awesome and I hope you have been enjoying your school year and have had a good time getting to know your new (and old) dorm siblings better.

Makes all the tears and worry and ups and downs so worthwhile!

Our Swiss Miss and Laura were inducted into the National Honor Society. Laura's parents flew in from Bangkok, hid out in the guest house and surprised her by showing up for her induction!

Our Nathan and Sarah were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society later in the week. We are very proud of all our students' accomplishments.

Working together on algebra - thank goodness for older dorm sisters!!

We bought this sleeping bag for potential camping trips to nearby islands and beaches. Read the temperature rating: EXTREME LOW +15C - isn't that hilarious!!

The above two pictures are from Kaleb and Tim's trip, with several other guys, out to the hidden refugee camp in the jungle. The 50+ refugees were so thankful for the supplies of rice, oil and other necessities. Thanks to those who prayed for a successful trip. It is the first of many as we collect more supplies to do what we can to help these people adjust and make a life here.

Sri Anandwan Bahwan or Sab for short is the Indian restaurant across the street that serves a mean plate of tandoori chicken, cheese naan and roti canai with fresh lime juice. We often go there for a quick bite to eat on our Tuesdays off. Another favorite is the new Mexican take-away restaurant next door to Sab, run by an Australian woman no less!
