Grad so far

The grad activities officially began with senior tea on Saturday morning. This is a long standing tradition here at Dalat, over 50 years now, of having parents and relatives attend a tea put on by the staff for the graduating class. Seniors introduce their loved ones and the director presents the gifts. The food is amazing and the chapel is decked out in the JSB decorations. Yesterday's tea was wonderful as usual. Last night, the high school band and choir concert packed out the chapel and afterwards everyone was invited to see the art exhibition in the cafeteria. This morning, the baccalaureate service was held next door at Paradise and at its conclusion, pictures were taken on the lovely staircase of all the families and classes.

I can't believe a whole year has gone by already! That's a beautiful picture of your family.

I have to say that this post triggered some deep emotions. TCK graduations are such bittersweet occasions -much more so than most graduations in our home countries. There is joy in the successful completion of a major rite of passage, but also the heart rending goodbyes leading to an often painful period of transition into our home cultures. I really appreciate how you and Dalat recognize this, and are striving to make it a healthy, positive time of closure. I have enjoyed reading your posts this year as we prepare to join the Dalat staff next year. It has been very helpful in our understanding of the school's environment. As a former boarding student I have appreciated your perspective and have an incredible respect for the ministry you have. I hope you have a wonderful time on HMA, and we look forward to serving with you.
