Balu's Extravaganza

Balu is our national staff kitchen and housekeeping supervisor. A vegetarian Hindu, Balu is a wonderfully kind and generous man. He is a musician, a floral arranger and dabbles in menu planning and nutrition - thus his job with us. To celebrate Deepavali, the Hindu event recongizing the light over the darkness, Balu held a huge party at his home on the mainland. The whole dorm program plus all the staff were invited along with many of Balu's other business associates and family. We all ate exotic and traditional Indian food til we were stuffed and then toured his amazing home (for those in Sask, he lives in a golf resort community like Deer Valley, only with palm trees!). Tim and I both wore our Indian attire that had purchased last year. It was a lovely and memorable evening.

Balu's mother-in-law is a music teacher and she gave us a short concert on the sitar.
