Tsunami

This was sent out to the families of our students so we thought we'd post it here for our family and friends:

The Administration of Dalat International School is aware of the powerful 8.4 earthquake that shook the southwest corner of Sumatra, Indonesia, last night. A tsunami watch was posted for Penang but has since been lifted. Malaysia has announced that it was not under any threat of a tsunami from last night’s quake.
Another strong 7.8 quake was felt this morning near the same area as yesterday’s quake. Its magnitude was smaller than the quake yesterday and has not triggered a new tsunami watch or warning for Penang. The Malaysian Meteorological Society has already announced this morning that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
We want you to know that the safety of the students at Dalat International School is our top priority. We will be constantly monitoring the news and will continue to do so throughout the day. All classes and events will continue as scheduled. If the situation changes, we will take all necessary precautions to make sure no students (or dorm parents!) are in danger.

In this part of the world, the word 'tsunami' creates quite a sense of panic, especially since just blocks down the beach 70 people died in the '04 tsunami. So today's top priority - make sure the evacuation backpacks are labeled, filled and ready to go.....for peace of mind for our students. Thanks for everyone's prayers and concern for our safety.

Hi there...Whew! I was praying for you all day...trusting that all was well. Glad to hear there was no real threat where you are. The news sort of died off and didn't really say how much damage or where....Stay safe and well...love to you all

Can I ask what is in an evacuation backpack?
