Today we went to Penang International Church for Sunday service. It is held on the third floor of Northam Hotel near Georgetown. Since we missed church last Sunday due to travelling here, it was good to sing, worship and listen to a good sermon. We met a lot of other expats who work in various sectors here in Penang.
Our friend from Saskatoon, Nellie, who is the school nurse, arrived yesterday. She is our host person - someone designated to help us get settled. So she took out for lunch to her favourite stall after church. Over in Batu Ferringhi, it's known by the expats as Sizzling Chicken and the name aptly describes the food. We will definitely go there again, probably lots of times for the awesome chicken!! The road to Batu Ferringhi is a windy, coastal road and along it are monkeys who hang from the trees and sit on the power lines. We even saw one with a cup in his hand! Nellie showed us a bunch of other sites and will be taking us to the large grocery store, called Cold Storage, on Wednesday to buy our load for the dorm.
The power was out again today as the substation is being hooked up. With the humidity at 95% today, it was incredibly hot in the mid afternoon in our apartment without fans to move the air. When we couldn't stand it anymore, we donned our bathing suits and headed to the Paradise Hotel for a dip in the pool. Some other families had the same idea and we enjoyed a game of keep away (guys vs girls) in the pool. It was a great way to cool off and kill time. A huge wind began to blow so we came home and sat on the porch watching the strange weather.
Tonight I made grilled cheese sandwiches for supper on the gas hotplate and we ate outside when the wind died down. The power came back on and we have the AC going to cool off our bedrooms for the night.
So that's the Sunday Report from the Archer's in Malaysia!
