Looking back...

Last night I was picking up the kids from WCC's youth service and I saw a young fellow I know. I had a short mentoring relationship with his wife. I will never forget sitting in the van one night with her, waiting to drop her off after we had coffee together. She mentioned something to me that sent red flags flying around in my mind. Wanting to say something but not be too overbearing, I told her that, as a wife, she would either cut in half or double her husband's potential. The stunned look on her face should have alerted me to a bigger issue - it didn't. Shortly after that, I accidentally ran into her at the airport and we had a quick conversation. I found out a couple days later she had left her husband and flown to another province. They are divorced now.

I don't think it had to end like this. I'm not big on regret but I do wonder what would have happened if I had of said more or pushed for more information. I'll never know now but I do hope he can rebuild his life and find peace that passes human understanding.
