Fun in Chiang Mai

We are home from our quick excursion to Chiang Mai, where we had a wonderful time at the relaxing at Juniper Tree and touring around the area.
This is our Thai house - two rooms with two bathrooms and a great porch to relax on.Kaleb purchased a chess set at the night market and taught his sister how to play.

We spent most of Sunday at an elephant farm, watching the elephants play soccer, paint pictures and do tricks plus riding through the jungle on top of one! To get to the elephant ride, we took an ox cart up the hill - definitely not my favorite mode of transportation.

We also enjoyed a lovely ride down the Mae Paeng river on a bamboo raft.

Tim and Kaleb rented ATV's and spent an afternoon going 42 kms up a mountain to catch the sunset.

To our great delight, we met up with friends from Korea at the Juniper Tree - we were completely unaware that they were coming! It was good to catch up, share dorm stories and encourage each other. Together, we enjoyed a scrumptious turkey dinner on Christmas day.

Truck with benches in the back are known as songteows and are a cheap way to get around town, especially to the fabulous night market.

About the elephants--I wanted to go sooo bad but I didn't get to. So I'm glad you got to. About the night market--been there, done that! It's a great experience.
