Land Below the Wind

We've just returned from our trip to Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia. All in all, a very good break and rest for our weary bodies. KK is a nice place, a bit more relaxed and less populated than Penang, with lots to see and do. Our lovely hotel, Tang Dynasty, had a mall attached to it so we shopped at the handicraft stalls and bought some breakfast items at the grocery store. Our suite was beautiful and the beds were soooo comfy!! Here are some random pics from our time away: We visited a heritage site of a typical Malaysian village of stilts houses. Here Annie is sitting on one of the wooden beds.
Many of the primitive villages in East Malaysia and greater Borneo were headhunters. They would hang the skulls from the ceiling for good luck.
A swinging bridge across the river would provide protection from enemies.
Kaleb and Annie are on the ladder to the sleeping space above the living area.

What a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the serenity of this place.

This little Malay restaurant was our stop for lunch on Saturday and....
Kaleb was not prepared for the hot dahl curry sauce next to his rice!!! Quick, pass the lime juice!
Annie took many random shots of her brother - this is one of them!
Manukan Island was our day trip on Sunday for sleeping on the beach and snorkeling in the beautiful blue water. The coral was outstanding and the fish were much bigger than those we had swam with in Pangkor last April.
Waiting outside the hotel for a taxi.
