After Sneak Dinner

Every year, our senior class 'sneaks' away on a four day trip to an undisclosed location. When they leave, the surprised junior class kicks into high gear, preparing a themed dinner for them the night after they arrive home. Its like a celebration of a celebration! Last month, in anticipation of a coming Sneak, the juniors choose their theme and Kaleb was in charge of the program and games committee.

Last Friday, our seniors snuck off to Phuket, Thailand, and that meant the juniors worked many hours over the weekend putting together their event, all in the 50's theme and held at the Right Foot Diner (aka the chapel). With a band concert the night before, the juniors only had a few hours on Wednesday during the school day (they could only use study hall time and were not allowed to miss class) to transform the chapel and get themselves ready. We went down and assisted their sponsors for part of the day. Some people wonder why go to all the trouble when they could head to a restaurant or plan something less time consuming. But this kind of event provides excellent experience at working together, appreciating one another's strengths, building community and so many other things that can't be taught in a classroom. Since Dalat's mission is to 'educate for life', this is one of the best ways to teach necessary life skills.

Hamburgers, French fries, milkshakes, malts and cheesecake were on the menu and the program consisted of a Elvis impersonator and a bunch of games to get the seniors and juniors off on the 'right foot' this year. Kaleb monitored the crowd and changed games as he sensed each coming to a close. He also veered off from the script and ad libbed a bunch of stuff that went over well with the crowd. Kaleb came home last night, absolutely exhausted, since they had to take the all the decorations down for another band concert!! As he was laying in bed, his true ENFP personality came shining through when he said, in a tired whisper, "This was the best day of my life!"

What a fun time! You went to a lot of work but it looks like it turned out great! I'm sure the seniors were impressed. What a great ending to their get away.
