Storm

Last night, we had a tremendous tropical storm come up from the north on the ocean side. We could far off that the sky was turning a dark black and the ocean was several different colors of blue and green. Then the wind came. It was so intense it was hard to walk against it. The waves were wild as well - the biggest we have seen since our arrival.

While we were in the chapel for the HS band concert, the rain came and started pounding down. It leaked through some light fixtures on the stage while the band was performing. The walls of the chapel creaked and groaned and I wondered if they would collapse!

The rain ended before the concert was over and when we got back to the dorm, we discovered our apartment roof had leaked along a seam. The water missed our computer by inches! Thank the Lord for that mercy. But the carpet, our kitchen table, some clothes in the laundry basket and the counter were all wet.

The student lounge was also hit which meant the TV and DVD player were wet and we have yet to turn either one on. We don't have glass in every window here - some are just screens and although the TV sits against a screen, the outside has a substantial overhang and there has never been water in the lounge before. Under our covered porch are the steps to the dorm, covered with shoes and flip-flops, all of which were thoroughly soaked.

Some kids came home and said that portions of our dorm assistant's roof had blown off and exposed her living area to the rain. Tim went over and helped the guys tarp up the holes in the dark. Today, the repair crew is out, fixing things up all over campus. Although the humidity is up today the temperature is a bit cooler, so that's one bonus of a tropical storm!

We used to say to the kids when they were little, "Who's in the storm?" and they would reply, "God is!" Considering the violent wind and rain, it could have been much worse so we thankful to be in God's care.

Wow! So glad you're safe. I've been in enough bad storms to know something of what you went through. I'm so glad God is in the storms. God is everywhere!

Hi there...I to am greatful for God's loving care for my family so far away...just a quick note it is very late...I have just come home from Dinner Theatre at Faith Lutheran Church...they put on a Neil Simon play The Odd Couple. It was an awesome evening with Chris & Carol and Elmer & Carol. Today CBC was busy telling about the new Lily named in honor of The University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. It is a very lovely lily and the seeds came from Malaysia. It seems to me these days every time I listen to "CBC" Malaysia comes up in one form or another. I listen to CBC everyday and have for years. Maybe I just wasn't interested in Malaysia...but I sure am now.
