Sorry for the serious lack of blogging. Several reasons for it - we have been busy, very, very busy, the internet connection at our dorm has been off and on due to renovations on campus and I hadn't downloaded the pictures off the camera yet. Now its Saturday morning and I'm still in my pj's, trying to get caught up on the events of the past week. You can see those posts below. I've also added a temp and clock monitor to the sidebar of my blog so you can see how we are suffering in this tropical heat!
On Friday morning, Dad was on the porch when a black monkey came by swinging in the palm trees. It noticed Dad and took off running down the power line. Later that morning, it decided to conduct an experiment on the power lines, electrocuting itself and blacking out the power to more than half the campus. It was burned badly but managed to escape. Today it came by our dorm again, one hand dangling, fairly unsteady on the wires with crows chasing it. Poor thing. Hopefully it goes out to the jungle near the beach to die since I wouldn't want any of the kids to find it dead outside on the street. Because of the Hindu beliefs of some of the national staff, the monkey cannot be put down but must die on its own.
Yesterday we also had a great webcam conversation with my brother's family. They gave us all the details of the terrific storm that passed through Saskatchewan and we've heard from several others how bad it was. Jennie said it was -34C in Birch Hills while here in Penang it was +34C!! Isn't that crazy?
We have finished our second puzzle and are now starting the third one. Mom, Tim and Annie spend a considerable amount of time working on them. Hopefully this one will last the week!
Wildlife has been abundant these past days so Mom and Dad have seen lots. Lucy showed up so Dad was able to get a couple pictures before she slid down the drain, obviously annoyed with us that we bothered her sunbathing siesta. A gecko and a cockroach have taken up residence in Mom and Dad's bathroom. And while Mom was at the morning wet market with Tim buying Chinese pancakes and curry puffs, a rat scurried along the drain below her feet. Tim, being the astute son-in-law that he is, didn't mention anything until they were home - otherwise, he may have had to revive Mom after she passed out!! They have yet to see the civet cats.
Last night we attended Scott's birthday party at Jackson dorm and tonight we are hosting a potluck for 18 people plus ourselves. Mom is making pumpkin pie and I'm in charge of the main course and drinks.
Good news - our international flights are booked. Now I have to do the domestic flights so am checking for seat sales on Air Canada and WestJet. Kids head home June 9 and we get home July 3. We'll head to our cabin out at Arlington and welcome any and all to visit us there. We return to Penang on Aug 1.

Shauna - Thanks for blogging and keeping us up-to-date back in Saskatchewan...nice to see. Wow is it every beautiful there! Your Mom and Dad will have soooo many memories with you. I miss them but glad they have gotten away for a much needed and deserving holiday. It looks like our weather is starting to warm up some -23 this morn, but I don't think it keeps any of us home...we love to go! Your pics are beautiful. Thanks Shauna, Cheryl
up date on our weather...talked to Wilf and it is -13 at home...we are in a hotspot!!

What an interesting blog! The poor monkey, Oh! I think your folks must be having the time of their lives! Thanks for putting the temps. and time on your side bar. It's amazing, isn't it?!
Shauna Archer - What a joy to stalk you so efficently and find that you are doing what you do so well - giving those kids a childhood to remember! I am pretty amazed at you at the best of times but WOW!
A quick update - I am out in Salmon Arm, BC now. Taking a break from ministry and am Teaching Music at a few public schools in the area. I am loving the area and adjusting to life in a place where I knew not a soul when I decided to venture out and explore the vast unknown. It isn't Malaysia but maybe one day!
Anyway - I thought I'd drop you a line and say I admire the way you and Tim are as parents and I want to walk in the freedom to serve God in Extraordinary ways. Passionate Spirituality all the way! :)
