Track and field

Today we held the annual Track and Field event for grades 5-12. Usually its held at USM but this venue was not available this year so we moved over to City Stadium. The only difference was that we could not go on the green at City Stadium so discus and javelin plus all the long races were completed before today.

All the kids are put on different color teams and Tim and I were leaders for the yellow team. Each student also choses what events they want to be a part of and the team receives points for participation as well as firsts, seconds and thirds. We cheered lots and chased down kids who were not at their scheduled events. We are amazed at how fast some of these Asian kids can run - their legs move so fast and they can come from way behind to catch up and even win. It was incredible to watch.

Annie only had to complete her shot put today. Kaleb had the 800 m and shot put to do. Otherwise, they stayed in the shade of the stands, drinking lots of water or eating the freezies the Junior class was selling. Our great cafeteria staff brought a hot chicken lunch all the way across town to feed us.

It was a great day, weather wise, with blistering sunshine in the morning and cloud cover in the afternoon for the relays. Just as we were leaving the stadium, it started to rain - perfect timing! Thank you Lord!
