Our first visitor

This past weekend, we had our first visitor from Canada. Keith, my birth dad, stopped in for a few days on his way home from a business trip to Indonesia. We had a great time together and hopefully he was able to catch a glimpse of our lives as a dorm parents at Dalat.

Keith arrived on Saturday afternoon, just in time to be a part of the pandemonium of the Christmas banquet. On Sunday, he came to church with us and out for lunch to the "Dalat cafeteria". For our evening meal, we took him out to the Palace of India where he and Tim enjoyed red snapper baked in a claypot (see picture). On Monday, he came shopping with us to Tesco, the Malaysian version of Wal-mart, and in the afternoon, Keith and Tim painted one of the backdrops for the upcoming drama. He graciously endured another meal in the cafeteria with us for Monday's supper and then went shopping with me and a couple of girls to Gurney mall.

Thankfully, Tuesday was our day off and we spent several hours lounging on the beach and swimming in the pool at Paradise Hotel next door where he was staying. We even enjoyed lunch on the beach! When the kids finished their homework after school, we headed over to Batu Ferringhi for supper at the stalls and shopping at the night market. That was truly a Malaysian experience. Keith is now on his way home, from the tropical heat of Malaysia to the subzero temps of Saskatchewan!

It was great to have someone from back home come our way and be a part of our lives here. We feel less isolated and more connected to all those we love and all that we enjoy so many miles away.
