Cameron Highlands

We had a wonderul experience this past weekend in the Cameron Highlands. I wore jeans for the first time in June!! It was cool at night and even during the day when it rained, which it did off and on. Our dorm stayed at Chefoo Methodist Resort while Jackson dorm stayed at the OMF bungalow. We ate all our meals together at OMF and spent most of our time there in the lounges playing games and drinking hot chocolate.

Together, our dorms enjoyed board games, sudukos, puzzles, piano playing and guitar music, bike riding, outdoor night games with glow sticks (in the mud!), trips to the 'self plucking' strawberry farm, the cactus farm and a tea plantation, the very busy night market, awesome food, comfy beds and fresh mountain air. We packed a lot into our short time away but thoroughly enjoyed every minute - even the trip up and down the mountain on the very windy, narrow roads....OK, with the exception of a couple of kids who had woozy stomachs on the way down after consuming too many strawberries covered in whipped cream and chocolate :)

Its like another world up in the Cameron Highlands - hundreds of little roadside stalls along the way selling fresh roses, fresh strawberries, lots of fruit, cacti - and nowhere to park except on the edge of the road. Terraced into the hillsides are strawberry farms and tea plantations and vegetable gardens. Everything is so green and beautiful. Its a lot more rural and quaint than the city here on the island.

This past weekend marked the end of the Malaysia school term for this year and began their six week break, similar to our summer break back in Canada. So the Highlands were overrun with charter buses bringing up families and tourists. In one short 2 km stretch of road along the edge of the moutain, we counted over 30 buses!! Then there's all the local traffic plus motorcycles and people walking. It was wild!!

We drove home through a torrential rainstorm, although the kids were so tired most of them slept along the way. We brought back a cooler full of strawberries to enjoy this week - maybe I'll make strawberry shortcake! Everyone in our dorm was tired last night so we all crashed early to get ready for a very busy week ahead.

In the following posts, I will put pictures of the trip - enjoy!
