I know its been awhile since I posted anything. I do have some pictures to post but Kaleb keeps taking the camera to Information Processing class so I don't have it during the day when I actually have time to post. After school and the evenings get quite hectic with other activities and homework.
This last week has been stressful for us. We've had some bigger issues to deal with here in our dorm and we're probably not sleeping well because of that. But, in spite of that, we do have some good things to report. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of our church, Georgetown Baptist, on Sunday at Gurney Hotel ballroom with several hundred others. It was an amazing morning - dancers, singers, videos, sermon and more. We sang in Bahasa Malay...well, OK, we didn't sing, we hummed along to a great song. The only line we can remember is "Melodi cinta" and some girls sang that over and over again at breakfast this morning. The sermon was also translated into Mandarin not that we understood any of that but many did.
Sunday night we had dorm devotions at our usual time. We are going through the NOOMA series and we did the one entitled "Matthew", which is all about grief. The students really connect well with the medium and the message - we had some really good discussion.
Monday is Amazing Race day. The kids all get their homework done in time to watch it at 9 pm. No one team stands out for me this time round - last season I was with the hippies all the way. We do guess who will hit the mat first but this week our guesses of Edwin/Godwin or Rob/Kimberly were not on the mark when Peter/Sarah made it there first. It was a bit surprising when David/Mary didn't have to give up all their belongings when they came in last. (Our whole dorm cheered when they weren't eliminated!!) That's a new twist for this season - we'll see how it goes for them. I highly doubt they can come in first next week but you never know!! It does make for some exciting TV viewing :)
We have a new series starting here on November 9 - Amazing Race Asia!! It features Asian teams and we have two Malaysian teams participating. From what we have read in the Astro cable guide, it will have rules similar to the original but alas, it won't feature Phil Keough. We'll let you know if it lives up to the real deal.
Yesterday was our day off. We didn't do much - watched Finding Forrester, went to Cold Storage to get a few personal groceries, read a lot and slept. Oh yeah, I made cinnamon buns early in the morning because Tim was going to host the dorm dads for Monday night football, which comes on here Tuesday morning!! But the scheduling was messed up and the game didn't come on til 3:30. He watched it by himself til he and Kaleb decided to head for pizza at the end of the third quarter. Not a good idea - apparently the Chicago Bears came back from behind to win in the last seconds of the game and Tim missed it!! UGH! At least the pizza was good.
Last night we had parent teacher interviews for our high schoolers. We had nine students to account for so we spoke with a lot of the teachers. Most of our students are pulling straight A's so the majority of the comments were positive and encouraging. We do have some who need extra assistance in certain areas though and together with the teacher we tried to think of ways to help.
Today our Middle Schoolers have the day off for parent teacher interviews. I accidentally forgot that Daniel and Santi could sleep in and at the usual wake up time, I barged into their room, turning on the lights and being loud. A few minutes later, Santi wanders into the kitchen, looking all disheveled and asks, "Do I have to get up so early today?" That's when I remembered he could sleep in!! I felt awful but managed to get him back to bed without too much trouble. He and Daniel may never forgive me however.
We have four interviews scheduled for this afternoon. I'm sure it will be similar to what took place last night - lots of positive comments and a few ideas for those who are struggling.
Hopefully, this post helps you catch up with the happenings in the lives of the Chandler dorm crew. There's a lot more crazy stuff plus meetings going on but I have to leave something for your imagination!

I heard all about the Bears fantastic come back on CBC sports on my way to work!! Not that I am a huge football fan but the sports comes along with news. Everyone was raving about it!!! Keep up the good work parenting...sounds like you might have found a niche! Hey how many students do you have altogether? Love and God Bless Mum
Including our own two, we have thirteen. The other dorms have 14, 17, 17 and 18 with their own kids. WOW, eh? That's a lot of teenage hormones happening in one place :)
Welcome back - I missed you. I will be praying for your stresses.
Go Bears! I don't blame Tim for leaving - the first 3 quarters were actually painful to watch. The last five minutes were unbelievable
