Our beautiful view

Tonight we ate supper by the ocean again. After a day of high humidity, the breeze was refreshing. A helicopter flew overhead, which we noted as unusual, although those who weathered the tsunami said helicopters were plentiful after that crisis. Everyday we also see ships of various kinds passing by. And of course there are always the jet skiiers and parasailers. One day we saw a Muslim woman in her full length black burka floating by in the air :)

The small island to the right in the beach picture is Rat Island, the usual destination for those who use the school kayaks. Last week, a student was badly injured on the island when a concrete two-story shrine collapsed on him. We are incredibly thankful to the Lord for his mercies and for the quick thinking of the other students, who dug Drew out of the rubble, carried him to the kayaks and paddled him back to the school, to receive emergency treatment. One of those students was our own David, who is now our dorm hero.

Tim and another dorm dad kayaked out there this week to see the accident site and were stunned that Drew was not completely crushed to death. The faith of all the young men involved has been strengthened as they have faced death, their own mortality and the eternity that follows.

Wow, it's so beautiful. But, we never know when something is going to happen. I'm so glad the other boys were able to help him.
