Chronicles of a day off

Today was our day off. We got the Kaleb and Annie off to school this morning and then just relaxed for a while. After doing some chores, we headed out to play tennis on the campus court. First we had to wait for the preschool classes to finish whipping around the court on their trikes! I've never played before and Tim just started learning along with Kaleb. It was fun for the most part, although we may have spent more time chasing after the ball than we did actually hitting it.

We were soaking wet with sweat afterwards so we headed to the Paradise Pool for a refreshing swim. Its a beautiful pool right on the ocean so the breeze is great, the water is cool and the view is outstanding!

Back at home in the afternoon, we ended up retreating from the heat to our air conditioned bedroom to watch a movie about Evel Knievel. I finally got some pictures hung in our bedroom and bought some matching sheets. The laundry ladies had outfitted all our bedrooms when we first arrived but did want all of those linens back sometime before Christmas.

I had a nap a little later when Annie was at soccer practice. Thankfully Tim made supper - spaghetti with Nellie's awesome homemade breadsticks!

After homework, we headed down to the night market. Kaleb and Annie had not experienced this before and were awestruck at the amount of people and the variety of goods available. I bought a cheap pair of sandals for wet weather, Kaleb bought some Chinese candy, Tim bought a belt clip for our cell phone and Annie looked but didn't buy although the dog posters were tempting. To cool off in the night heat, we all had ice cream cones.

We also broke down and bought four pirated movies - Cars, Over the Hedge, Lady in the Water and Superman 2. It is a huge controversy here in Malaysia, whether or not to buy pirated DVD's. Many here at the school do because it is difficult to find original versions and they are often very expensive. Gurney Mall does have one or two stores that apparently sell the real deal but occasionally even those end up being pirated versions in a nicer case. The "bad" DVD's sell for 6RM or about $1.80 CDN. I'm still not sure it was the right thing to do. We'll have to think and pray about the ethics of issue and its impact.

Now we are rested and ready for tomorrow! Kaleb will be up early to study for a geometry quiz and we'll be up early getting the baked oatmeal and banana bread ready for breakfast :)
