Today our Annie Mae was baptized. It was an amazing day - beautiful weather, lots of sunshine, great friends, good food and lots of conversation. Thirty-seven of us gathered on the beach in the late afternoon sun to support Annie and to celebrate this milestone in her life. Our good friend, Bruce, performed the baptismal ceremony and spoke beautiful words of affirmation to Annie. Bruce clearly reminded us all that this act does not mean Annie has arrived spiritually - this is an act of obedience, one that Jesus also went through, to publicly proclaim her allegiance to Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. Annie read her own testimony that she wrote herself about how God has worked in her life and how she is depending on Him daily. She closed with this verse: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path" (Prov 3:5-6). Lana, her small group Bible study leader, then brought words of encouragement from her perspective of watching Annie grow this past year. After the beach service, we gathered at our cottage for supper.
It was a momentous day for us all. Thanks to all who shared this experience with us, who said such kind words of affirmation to her and who have influenced our Annie's young life.
