Good bye

Today as we celebrate Kaleb's birthday, others are mourning. Bruce's mom passed away today. She had been failing all week. She lived a tremendously rewarding life - ministering in SE Asia for many years alongside her husband, raising 5 kids and being faithful to the call of God on her life. My heart goes out to Bruce and Julia today as well as Myrna who doesn't arrive home from Indonesia til later today.

Five years ago, on this same day, we lost Mark Olson at the young age of 42 to leukemia. Friend, husband, father of 4 and visionary leader of Spring Hill Camps. I still remember the silent walk to the gravesite with 1500 other people behind the horsedrawn carriage bearing Mark's coffin.

Life and death go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other. How thankful I am for the sacrifice of Jesus that removes the sting of death and replaces it with hope and eternity.

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day ... so we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Cor 4:16-18
