Open thread Monday

Again the assortment of thoughts I've had cross my mind today:
  • After reading in Luke, Tim and I wonder how Gabriel had the authority to shut Zechariah's mouth for nine months. Any thoughts?
  • We decided to fast today until the Dallas Valley banquet tonight. So food is definitely on my mind but I have done some good praying and reading today in place of eating.
  • After watching the One Ton Man last night on TLC, food has lost some of its appeal. This poor man couldn't roll over for the past six years, hadn't stood up for about the same time and in spite of weighing that much, he was severly malnourished because his loving wife continued to feed him the food he asked for like chips, pop and fried hamburgers. He had lain face down watching TV non stop for several years and the paramedics had to remove an outside wall of his house to remove him. Thankfully he's on his way to recovery and now weighs around 500 pounds. My question, which was never answered, was, "What makes a person think so little of him/herself that they would slowly kill themselves?"
  • We're cleaning out the basement in preparation for our move. Tim is a keeper, I'm not. If you can't find it or don't use it in literally years, is it worth keeping around, taking up space, just for the eventuality that it one day may be needed? Canadians are so highly materialistic. I lived one summer in Mexico sleeping on a cot with four changes of clothes, one pair of shoes, my Bible and a toothbrush. Believe me, we could all get along with a whole lot less.
  • Which reminds me, for only $30/month, you can sponsor a needy child through Canadian Food for the Hungry. Our "adopted daughter" is Telma from Guatemala. Our money not only makes a huge difference in her life but helps her whole village to have things like clean drinking water and books for the school. Check out the link on the sidebar.
